The Weeknd Donates $2 Million to Gaza. Canadian singer Abel Tesfaye, widely known as The Weeknd, has generously donated $2 million through his charity XO Humanitarian Fund to assist starving families in Gaza, as announced by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
The donation aims to provide essential relief by supplying over 1,500 metric tonnes of fortified wheat flour, which can produce more than 18 million loaves of bread, supporting over 157,000 Palestinians for a month.
This contribution follows The Weeknd’s previous donation of $2.5 million in December 2023, which facilitated the distribution of food parcels to over 173,000 Palestinians for two weeks.
The singer is also urging his fans to contribute towards WFP’s efforts in Gaza, where over a million Palestinians are facing severe hunger. The Weeknd’s ongoing support underscores his commitment to WFP’s mission, as he continues to advocate for global hunger relief through personal donations and initiatives like the XO Humanitarian Fund. As a Goodwill Ambassador appointed in October 2021,
The Weeknd has played an active role in raising awareness and funds for Gaza operations, contributing to the $6.5 million raised for the Fund. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza, exacerbated by recent Israeli aggression, underscores the urgent need for assistance, with the UN warning of imminent famine.
The Weeknd’s philanthropy serves as a beacon of hope for vulnerable communities, demonstrating the power of compassion and solidarity in addressing humanitarian challenges.
