Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir and United Kingdom (UK) Army Chief of the General Staff (CGS) General Sir Patrick Sanders convened at the National Defence University (NDU) to inaugurate the 6th Pakistan-UK Regional Stabilization Conference. The event, as announced by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), saw General Sanders addressing the audience during the opening session.
This conference serves as a pivotal platform for defence and security dialogues between Pakistan and the UK, alternating between the two countries. It brings together diplomats, defence officials, intellectuals, and civil society representatives to discuss global and regional impacts on national security and peace.
Accompanying General Sanders was the Designate CGS UK Army, General Sir Roland Walker. The conference also saw engagement from a 30-member UK delegation, led by Standing Joint Force Commander Major General Tom Bateman, visiting Pakistan from April 29 to May 3. Discussions ranged from bilateral to regional issues, encompassing defence officials from both nations and the broader region.
During the visit, COAS engaged with General Sanders and General Walker in separate meetings to discuss professional interests and strategies to enhance bilateral defence relations. General Munir commended the UK CGS for his efforts in strengthening military ties and congratulated General Walker on his upcoming role as the CGS of the UK Army.
Earlier in the week, on April 29, COAS met with Commander Turkish Land Forces General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. The discussions revolved around mutual interests and strategies to fortify bilateral defence cooperation.
The interactions underscored the commitment of both nations to foster robust defence partnerships and promote regional stability.
