The Washington Post’s recent report exposes an alleged assassination plot orchestrated by Indian intelligence on foreign soil, implicating RAW officers and top leadership, including Narendra Modi’s inner circle. According to the report, Vikram Yadav, a RAW officer, was purportedly coordinating a hit team while Modi was being hosted at the White House last year.
Higher-ranking RAW officials, including the then-chief Samant Goel, were also implicated in the scheme. The operation targeted Sikh activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in North America, with Yadav reportedly instructing operatives to prioritize the assassination.
The report suggests that India’s actions reflect an escalating campaign to suppress dissent beyond its borders, disregarding the sovereignty of host nations. US intelligence agencies have reportedly been investigating the matter, with assessments linking Modi’s national security adviser, Ajit Doval, to the alleged plots. However, no concrete evidence implicating Doval has surfaced.
The investigation also uncovers alleged assassination attempts on Modi’s critics residing in the United States and Canada, illustrating the extent to which India is willing to go to suppress dissent globally. RAW’s tactics, including the use of criminal syndicates, mirror strategies employed in neighboring countries, according to officials.
The revelations shed light on the growing aggression by RAW against the Indian diaspora worldwide, particularly targeting Sikhs perceived as disloyal to the Modi government. The report underscores the diplomatic implications of India’s actions and raises concerns about the erosion of sovereignty and the rule of law.
