In a gesture of solidarity with Iran, Pakistan is set to unveil a new highway in Islamabad dedicated to its ally.
This renaming coincides with the upcoming visit of Iranian President Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi to Pakistan, scheduled from April 22 to 24. This visit marks the first by any head-of-state since the general elections on February 8.
Sources indicate that Eleventh Avenue will be renamed as Iran Avenue. The decision received approval from the cabinet following a proposal put forth by the Capital Development Authority (CDA), which was circulated among its members.
It is noteworthy that the construction of Eleventh Avenue was initially initiated by the CDA.
Currently, Eleventh Avenue stretches from Sector D-12 to the northeast corner of E-11, featuring an interchange at Khayaban Iqbal. The forthcoming phase will witness its extension to IJ Principal Road.
Raisi’s State Visit
In a significant diplomatic development, Iranian President Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad today for a three-day state visit.
Accompanied by his spouse and a notable delegation comprising the foreign minister, cabinet members, senior officials, and a sizeable business contingent, Raisi’s itinerary is extensive.
His engagements include meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Furthermore, Raisi will make visits to Lahore and Karachi to engage with provincial leadership.
The discussions aim to deepen Pakistan-Iran relations and foster collaboration across various domains such as trade, connectivity, energy, agriculture, and cultural exchange.
The leaders will also deliberate on regional and international issues, as well as joint endeavors to combat terrorism.
